Tlaloc

A lovely internet friend of mine saw my commission chart here and realized she could afford to commission me. She requested a computer-colored ink drawing of Tlaloc, Aztec god of rain and thunderstorms, etc, however I chose to portray him.  The descriptions I found of him mentioned always that he was known by his blue eye mask ("goggle eyes") and for his large fang-like teeth hanging from his upper jaw.  He was often colored black, thus the legs.  He was apparently part crocodile in some tellings, thus the tattoos.  And he was the most richly bejeweled god in all the pantheon.

I began with an ink drawing, which was then run through LiveTrace, a feature of Adobe Illustrator, and brought back to photoshop, where it was colored.  I used a great many textures for this piece.  Rough sediment for the rattles at his ankles and his eye mask, corrugated sheet metal for his earrings, ostrich feathers for his feathers, various cloth and cloth patterns for his attire, and a combination of rock wall and storm clouds for the background.  The lightning was added by hand.

I enjoyed doing this one, and the girl who commissioned me was very pleased.
